Canto-pop singers are household names in Hong Kong, but there are opportunities out there for local bands to find fame.

One of the largest amateur band contests, the Asian Beat Band Competition organised by Yamaha and the Tom Lee Music Foundation, is celebrating its 15th anniversary this year. The winner will represent Hong Kong in the grand final in Singapore on November 11.

Last year's Hong Kong champion, the five-piece band Jukator, won the grand prize and best guitarist title in the grand final in Seoul.

Those wishing to enter the contest can apply at www.tomleemusic.com until Tuesday. The first round will be held next month at the Tom Lee Academy Hall in MegaBox, Kowloon Bay. Winners will take home trophies and Yamaha and Zildjian gift vouchers.
