Who started it? Los Angeles-based Vince was launched in 2001 by Rea Laccone and Christopher LaPolice. The pair, who had worked together at Laundry by Shelli Segal, set out on their own to create casual luxury clothing. In quintessential Californian style, they specialise in relaxed silhou-ettes, simple lines and solid colours. As for the brand name, it's inspired by designer Cynthia Vincent, who helped found the company.

Why we love it: there may be no such thing as the perfect T-shirt but Vince produces the closest thing to it we've seen. Its chic dresses and separates are constructed from high-quality fabrics to create wardrobe staples that will never go out of style.

What we'd pick: the vermillion crew-neck jersey T-shirt (right; HK$850) is astonishingly soft and even though it's a basic, it is far from boring. The silk chiffon peasant blouse in white (below right; HK$2,500) boasts clean lines and a delicate, unfinished collar.

Where can you get it? Vince is available at Lane Crawford, 3 Canton Road, Tsim Sha Tsui, tel: 2118 3428.
