The president of the Professional Teachers' Union announced his withdrawal from the Legco election for health reasons, a week after registering as a candidate in the education functional constituency. The 51-year-old Democrat said tests showed he could be at risk of prostrate cancer: 'Over the past six months, my health has been deteriorating and I easily feel tired. I was told about the results a few days ago.'

The professional golfer spent the start of a holiday in the rough after Severe Typhoon Vicente delayed her flight home to New Delhi by 20 hours. The ordeal got worse when she reached her destination but her bags did not. 'The nightmare continues,' she said on reaching her destination. Airlines warned that delays could last until the weekend.

The Taiwanese superstar was denied an opportunity to meet her Hong Kong fans when her appearance at the Ani-Com & Games fair was cancelled. Online games company Gamania pulled out of the fair in protest at new rules designed to get rid of professional queuers - and with them went their celebrity spokeswoman.
