Hong Kong's Nicholas Choi (right) is hit by Romania's Radu Daraban in the men's individual foil yesterday. Choi was beaten but is determined to return to the Olympic Games after his brief experience in London. The 19-year-old, the youngest among the 42-member Hong Kong squad, enjoyed 15 minutes in the limelight during the opening round. He was comforted by team manager Harry Choi, also his father, after the 15-8 defeat. 'I told him to keep going,' Harry Choi said. 'As his father and team manager, I want him to compete at the next Games as he is still young. The Olympics is a great experience and not many athletes can have the opportunity of being part of it. He should learn from today and make himself a stronger fencer for the next Games.' A disappointed Nicholas Choi said he hoped for a better result in Rio de Janeiro in 2018. 'I need to work harder,' he said, adding that the Asian Games in Incheon in 2014 would help in his preparations.

Elsewhere, So Sau-wah reached the 'E' final in the men's single sculls in rowing, while Leung Chun-shek and Lok Kwan-hoi are in the semi-finals (C/D) of the men's lightweight doubles. In archery, Calvin Lee Kar-wai lost in the first elimination round to Takaharu Furukawa of Japan 138-133. On the water in Weymouth, Hayley Chan Hei-man is eighth overall after two races in the women's windsurfing event, while in the men's competition Leung Ho-chun is 14th.
