Global warming is an urgent issue

Have you heard the rumour that this year will be our last? There have been some signs that we are coming to the world's end.

The weather is unpredictable. There are many disasters such as earthquakes, tsunamis and floods. Scientists say these are related to global warming. The more electricity we use, the more carbon dioxide is released, and the hotter our planet becomes. As we are not used to living in such conditions, we will easily get sick. We may lose our winter and the Earth may even become uninhabitable for us. Then, it will be too late. We must take action now.

We should turn off electrical appliances that we are not using. In winter, we can wear more clothes instead of turning our heaters on. We should use public transport rather than drive cars. These are ways to save money, too.

Nature has warned us. If we do not slow down global warming, the rumour may become the truth.

From the Editor

Thank you for your letter, Frank. There is no doubt about it, Earth is in trouble and we can save her.

There are many ways we can change our behaviour so that we tread more lightly on our home planet. But often when faced with such seemingly overwhelming evidence of impending doom, we find it hard to imagine that anyone is doing anything to help. This makes us feel hopeless, even when that is far from the truth.

Men and women all over the world are working hard to solve global problems. Just this morning, Young Post was visited by a man who is working on a better way to feed the world. Don't give up hope.
