Telecoms boom in Anhui
AT the end of November, Anhui province had over 1.1 million telephone lines, and the trade volume in telecommunications hit 1.35 billion yuan (about HK$1.22 billion), up 53.6 per cent, one of the highest increase rates in this sector in China.
The past few years have seen Anhui allocating more investment to ensure that telecommunications lead its overall economic development. Last year 540,000 more telephones were put into operation.
In addition, switchboards linked with over 40,000 long-distance lines, optical cables totalling 3,500 kilometres and digital microwave cables totalling 1,230 km.
