Sweet celebration
We all love cupcakes. They are simply delicious. Singapore recently celebrated its 47th birthday with 20,000 cupcakes. The confections were arranged in a mosaic that looked like a pair of hands in a heart shape, with the Lion City's flag in the middle. The previous record for a cupcake mosaic was 5,900. It took more than 18 hours to bake the cakes, using almost 600kg of cupcake mixture, 350kg of eggs and 300kg of vegetable oil.

London Olympics
Things are heating up in London as the 2012 Olympic Games enters its second week. This is one of the most social media-friendly Games, offering fans the opportunity to follow their favourite athletes beyond the television. IOC Olympic Athletes' Hub (hub.olympic.org) collects and displays feeds from the profiles of top Olympic stars on popular social networking sites like Facebook and Twitter, making it a one-stop shop for finding out what they are up to. Facebook has also set up a page (www.facebook.com/pages/olympics), providing links not only to athletes' profiles, but also to teams and each Olympic sport. If tweets and status updates are not enough for you, Storify (storify.com/topics/olympics) collects Olympics-related stories from around the web from both news agencies and bloggers and presents them in one place.

Zombie invasion stuns church
Members of the notorious Westboro Baptist Church, which is known for holding anti-homosexuality protests at military funerals, got the surprise of their life recently when they were faced by a horde of zombies. During a church rally in the US state of Washington, a large group of rival demonstrators dressed as zombies showed up to protest against Westboro. Using Facebook, organisers successfully recruited 300 people to dress up as the living dead to do battle with the church. By wearing zombie outfits, the protesters wanted to make things positive and lighthearted, diverting people's attention from the church's hateful message.
