Quiet Room under review

THE men-only Quiet Room at the Royal Hong Kong Jockey Club is under review after a meeting of the Club House Committee raised concerns about banning women.

A spokesman for the Jockey Club said the management had been instructed to look into the issue and report back to the committee.

He said the issue was raised following concerns expressed by readers of the South China Morning Post, after the newspaper revealed that women who attempted to use the room faced disciplinary action.

The management will consider all aspects of the room, including its usage and facilities.

'Obviously, they will look into the matter quite seriously,' the spokesman said.

He said they would then report back to the committee with recommendations to be forwarded to the stewards.

The men-only rules governing the Quiet Room have provoked a storm of letters on the pros and cons of segregated areas, and mixed reactions from members.
