Port tops million mark
HONG KONG, the world's busiest container port, is the first to handle more than one million containers a month for two successive months.
The official August figures show that Hong Kong handled 1.008 one million teus (20-foot equivalent units) during the month.
In July, Hong Kong handled 1.031 million teus, making it the first port to top the one million mark in a month.
In the first eight months of the year, the territory's total throughput was more than 7.15 million teus, up 21.5 per cent over the corresponding 1993 period.
