South Korea to play in Carlsberg Cup

WORLD Cup finalists South Korea will play their Olympic team in Sunday's Carlsberg Cup and in the Dynasty Cup next monthwrites Jessie Hui.

The side is a mixture of college students and three World Cup players.

But national defender Hong Myung-bo - Asia's Best Defender of the year 1994 - may not be available as he is training with his club, Posco Atoms, in Brazil.

The South Koreans appointed Russian coach Anatoli Bychovets, former coach of the Soviet Union, to mastermind their bid to qualify for the 2002 World Cup finals.

Bychovets said yesterday he believed Korea would go through to the Carlsberg Cup final although he knew their first-round opponents Colombia are one of the most powerful teams in South America.
