Golden drop plans to sign Abduraimov

AMBITIOUS Hong Kong First Division club Golden have decided to drop their plans to sign Uzbekistan Asian Games gold medallist Azamat Abduraimov as mystery deepened over his whereabouts.

Abduraimov, a key member of Uzbekistan's gold medal winning squad at last year's Asian Games, was supposed to have returned to Malaysia last week to complete Golden's record deal but he has not been seen since leaving for home almost two weeks ago.

The Uzbekistan striker, who played for Malaysian professional side Pahang, is allegedly in the middle of a massive police probe over corruption after Pahang were beaten 4-0 by Singapore in the Malaysia Cup final last month.

Malaysian police have detained more than 60 players in a graft inquiry and it was known Abduraimov was high on the list for police questioning.
