THE December-January edition of the adventure travel magazine Action Asia has fallen foul of strict censorship laws in Saudi Arabia because its cover depicted a woman clad in a swimsuit.

The illustration accompanied the lead story identifying Asia's 50 best beaches.

The official censor refused entry to the consignment of 250 copies and spokesman Andrew Owen said the company had decided to have them destroyed.

Copies of the same edition were also delayed on entry to Bahrain but authorities relented after several hours.

Mr Owen said this was the first time the magazine had been refused entry and that the choice of a cover photo would, in future, take cultural sensibilities into account.

The cover of the February-March issue will feature a large Napoleon wrasse to illustrate a story on diving with big fish and sharks.
