Dimerco connects China to the world

Discovery Reports

The slogan "Your China Logistics Specialist" is indicative of the depth of commitment that Dimerco Express Group has invested in connecting the world to China and vice versa. With an intimate understanding of the dynamic mainland market, Dimerco aims to strengthen China's trade ties with major markets around the world and to be instrumental in forging new connections.

The airfreight business of Dimerco has been the foundation of the company's expertise. As its business has grown, Dimerco has expanded its service portfolio to include ocean freight, logistics and warehousing, customs brokerage, trucking and global logistics supply chain management consultancy services. Dimerco continuously diversifies its products to become a one-stop shop to customers.

Building a strong international network has always been part of Dimerco's strategy. After it established an office in Taipei in 1971, Dimerco started building its overseas network through offices in New York, Hong Kong, Los Angeles, Chicago, London and Singapore.

"I started the business with capital of less than HK$100,000. I anchored Dimerco's business on three core competencies - flexibility, teamwork and professionalism," says Paul Chien, chairman and CEO. "We worked hard to guarantee excellent service to our customers and this paved the way for the company's growth."

Part of Dimerco's success can be attributed to its strict adherence to regulatory standards. The company is a member of the International Air Transportation Association and Customs-Trade Partnership against Terrorism. It is also ISO 9002-certified for professional quality service standards.

Constantly looking for ways to improve its service, Dimerco has introduced new technologies to boost operational efficiency. Dimerco has implemented an airfreight system called Dimerco Information Management System as the foundation of its technology infrastructure.

Regularly updating its technology infrastructure, Dimerco aims to leverage its newest technology, the Dimerco Value Plus System, to establish the company as a global mobile logistics service provider. The Dimerco Value Plus System integrates sales activity, operation, accounting and financial management processes to serve as a tool and platform in supply chain management.

As international companies started engaging in business on the mainland, Dimerco saw the opportunity to capitalise on the trend. Dimerco has been contributing to the growth of the logistics market in China since 1991. Dimerco operates more than 70 offices in China to promptly respond to its clients' supply chain management solutions needs. It holds an international Class A and Domestic Air Cargo licence on the mainland.

Manufacturing companies on the mainland have been moving from east to west to minimise production costs. Dimerco is prepared to ease the transition as it has already established a presence in Chengdu and Chongqing.

With high-profile names such as Epson, BenQ, Samsung, Logitech, Kingston Technology and Cross as its clients, Dimerco proves that it is a reliable partner. As a freight and logistics player in the service industry, Dimerco believes that its relationships with carriers and ocean liners are intricately linked to its relationships with customers.

Among Dimerco's list of partner airlines are China Airlines, Cathay Pacific, Air China and Eva Airways. Some of Dimerco's ocean liner partners include Evergreen, China Shipping Container Lines, Yang Ming Line, Cosco and Wan Hai Lines.

A testament to Dimerco's good relationships with airlines and carriers is the numerous awards the company has received from its partners. Dimerco has been conferred the Outstanding Cargo Agent in Taiwan by Cathay Pacific and Dragonair, the Million Dollar Sales award in Taiwan by China Airlines and the Best Agent Award in Guangzhou by Air China, among other recognitions.

Dimerco's perseverance in delivering high-quality service on an international scale has paid off. From revenues of HK$3.89 million in 1976, the company's revenues reached HK$1.97 billion last year. China is Dimerco's biggest revenue driver, generating 58 per cent of Dimerco's total revenues last year.

Believing in global marketing and localised service, Dimerco seeks partnerships with agencies all over the world to provide personalised service to each of the markets to which it caters.

"We want to be the most competitive global transportation and service provider," Chien says. "We are looking for mutual prosperity with our partners. We are very innovative and we leverage the latest technology and our resources to improve our service to customers. We are humble enough to learn at all times, to build our competitive edge."
