From its humble beginning as a small machine shop in the small town of Changhua, San Wu Rubber (SWR) faced a lot of challenges but confronted them with determination, solidarity and innovation to emerge as Taiwan's leading producer of rubber belts.

Founded in 1946 by four diverse groups from different areas in Taiwan, the company diversified into rubber manufacturing by developing its own machines. To circumvent a highly restricted textile industry, SWR invested in its own textile plant and created San Wu Textile in 1969. This vertical resource integration of raw material supply gave SWR a competitive advantage in terms of cost, quality, research and development.

"Sincerity, courtesy, responsibility and creativity are the qualities that have brought success to SWR and we share these principles with our shareholders and employees," says SWR president Lin Shen-i.

Producing mainly conveyor and power transmission belts, SWR dominates the conveyor belt market in Taiwan with an 80 per cent market share. It serves manufacturing companies across a variety of industries such as the Formosa Plastics Group, China Steel, Taiwan Power Company and Taiwan Cement. SWR exports its products to Europe, North America, the Middle East and the mainland. A factory in Vietnam is responsible for producing transmission belts for Southeast Asia.

SWR is focusing on increasing its sales channels through potential agents and strengthening its brand name. Recognising the growing markets on the mainland and in Vietnam, the company established sales branches in Xiamen, Kunshan and Ho Chi Minh City.

As an original equipment manufacturer for the world's top rubber belt companies, SWR believes that its knowledge and experience will be an advantage in marketing its own brand internationally.
