Leveraging its vast experience to support the construction requirements of parent firm Nongshim, Nongshim Engineering (NSE) is taking on bigger challenges. NSE has honed its expertise in building food and pharmaceutical factories for the leading conglomerate and is expanding to other industries and overseas markets.

"We have accumulated substantial skills through the years of building processing plants for our parent company - from construction to final production. We are aiming to bring our business to other areas using our technology and experience," says former NSE president and CEO Lee Mon-hee.

Nongshim built its business empire in South Korea as a manufacturer of instant noodles and snacks. The country's top food manufacturer is pursuing globalisation with its diversified businesses. NSE is supporting Nongshim's global moves as it provides comprehensive solutions for the planning, design, construction and automation of manufacturing facilities, warehouses and other buildings. The company has been commissioned in more than 50 major projects for domestic and international food manufacturers. Positioned as a total food engineering service provider, NSE has developed cutting-edge solutions for food manufacturers. Among its innovations is Intellisense, a food safety inspection system that monitors particulate contamination through visual and X-ray devices. The company has also designed proprietary systems for production management, data analysis and food safety.

"These systems contribute to reducing production cost," says managing director Chris Lee. "We are focusing on consulting and process engineering for the plants."

Nonghsim's noodle manufacturing plants in Shanghai, Qingdao and Shenyang showcase NSE's capabilities in building efficient, hygienic and automated production lines. The company aims to build partnerships as it expands on the mainland, Southeast Asia and other emerging markets worldwide. NSE is also intensifying its initiatives in building environmentally friendly facilities.

"Developing solutions that enhance environmental protection and energy saving are key areas of growth for the company," Chris Lee says.
