GOVERNMENT town planner Jennie Roberts felt the long arm of the law while enjoying a hen night with 14 pals in advance of her nuptials on Saturday.
The merry group, all wearing T-shirts with the logo 'Jen's Hen', first dined at the Yacht Club and then headed off to Delaney's in Wan Chai. Jennie, however, nearly didn't make it. She had grabbed a parking meter cover and was wearing it on her head as she walked down Lockhart Road when a car suddenly screeched to a halt beside her.
Out from the car jumped a young lady claiming to be an off-duty woman constable who promptly put her in an arm lock, saying she would be arrested for making off with Government property.
The PC's husband then grabbed Jennie while his wife telephoned for assistance. Two uniformed policemen arrived and demanded Jennie's identity card, which she had left at home. Eventually the young bride-to-be was let off with a caution. Never let it be said that Asia's finest are not zealous in their law enforcement.
A PLEA from Mike Matthews, general manager of the Ritz-Carlton Hotel. He needs a soccer coach for his team, punningly called the Ritz Crackers after those cheesy biscuits.
The team are gearing up for the 7th inter-hotel football tournament, which will take place in April at Victoria Park, by training between 3pm and 5.30pm every Saturday at the venue.
