Long-suffering councillor succumbs to tiresome Urbco business
URBAN Council business can be tiresome, as long-time councillor Cecilia Yeung Lai-yin testified yesterday.
As a worthy agenda unfolded before the Liquor Licensing Board, which met at 9 am, the 64-year-old Ms Yeung began with a flurry, asking questions about the applications.
But by 9.30 am the questions had subsided and Ms Yeung yawned, rubbed her eyes and finally nodded off.
She admitted later that her intense schedule of campaigning activities for next week's election was exhausting for serving members, such as herself.
'They are putting all their effort into the campaign, but I still have to attend all my meetings.' Ms Yeung is the third-longest serving Urban Councillor. Only Brook Bernacchi and Elsie Tu have served longer.
Apart from being vice-chairman of the licensing board, she sits on 13 of the council's working parties and sub-committees.
Her portfolio ranges from the public relations sub-committee to the working group on public toilets.
And while most people were settling down at home after a hard day's work yesterday, Ms Yeung was knocking on the doors of voters in her Wong Tai Sin constituency.
