Father lied over cutting trousers

A SEXUALLY abusive father was lying when he denied cutting open his daughter's trousers so he could molest her, a judge ruled yesterday.

Judge Lugar-Mawson said he believed the 16-year-old's testimony she wore trousers under her pyjamas to keep her father's hands at bay.

The girl told the District Court her father had thwarted her desperate attempts by cutting through her clothing.

The 49-year-old hawker pleaded guilty to three counts of indecent assault, but denied cutting the trousers.

But the girl described waking to find her trousers cut and her father on her bed holding a pair of scissors.

The court heard the hawker began molesting his daughter in December 1991. For the next two years, he would creep into her room almost every night.

The judge called for an inquiry into the facts in dispute. He adjourned sentencing until March 24 pending reports.
