More cargo handled
THE eight container terminals at Kwai Chung and Stonecutters Island handled 1.15 million 20 ft equivalent units (teus) in the first two months of this year, up 19 per cent over the same period last year.
Port Development Board figures show throughput was 665,703 teus in January, up 18.43 per cent, and 482,398 teus in February, up 20.1 per cent.
The lower February figure was ascribed to terminal closures during the Lunar New Year holidays.
Hong Kong handled more than 11 million teus last year, of which 7.27 million were handled at the terminals.
