RICHARD BRANSON was swept off his feet yesterday by his 'own' rugby team - the Ladies in Red of the Aberdeen Rugby Club.

The easy-going Virgin Corporation chairman who is in town for a promotional stint, breezed into Aberdeen Stadium to watch his team practise yesterday.

'This is the only rugby team I support in the world, and I certainly seemed to have picked the most attractive one,' joked Mr Branson.

The truth, however, behind the smiles is that Hong Kong is considered a vital link in former rugby player Mr Branson's future entrepreneurial plans and the support for Aberdeen Rugby Club women's team was one way to get publicity.

'We will launch Virgin Cola as a rival to Coca-Cola, and hope to open a Virgin Mega record store,' explained Mr Branson, once he had escaped the clutches of his 'Virgins'.

Mr Branson, casually attired in an open neck shirt and jacket, soon got into the mood, stripping off his shirt to don a red Virgin jersey.

It had been a long time since he wore a rugby jersey. 'I used to play rugby as a schoolboy for Stowe in Oxfordshire. But I had a cartilage injury and I quit school and instead of becoming a rugby player, I became an entrepreneur.' His 'Virgins' later gave the thumbs up to their new supporter. 'He get's 11 out of 10,' said captain Karen Robertson. 'It is simply super for him to support a team like ours' was the chorus from the other 19.

The Aberdeen side run on to the stadium on Sunday morning for a women's feature match during the Hong Kong Sevens.
