Spurs keep Ng on defensive

KITCHEE boss Ken Ng may call up an additional player from the Hong Kong League to bolster the Eastern-Kitchee select side due to face English Premier Leaguers Tottenham Hotspur in May.

With German striker Jurgen Klinsmann and Romanian international star Ilie Dumitrescu guaranteed for the match scheduled for May 20 or May 28 depending on Spurs' fortunes in the English FA Cup, Kitchee chairman Ng said he wanted a good defender to keep an eye on the fleet-footed Klinsmann.

'Who is going to mark Klinsmann?' queried Ng, who is concerned the Eastern-Kitchee defence may not be able to keep a check on the German star. Ng remained tight-lipped as to his choice but he may invite a big, strapping defender like Instant-Dict's Roddy Manley or South China's Robbie Ironside.

There are slight doubts Spurs may leave their England internationals at home as the English Football Association were considering rescheduling England's ill-fated friendly match against the Republic of Ireland, abandoned last month in Dublin because of rioting between rival fans, on May 22 - two days after the FA Cup final.

Ng said the Spurs exhibition would go ahead in May and Spurs' star players were guaranteed to appear as specified on the contract.

Meanwhile, Eastern's Dale Tempest and Lee Kin-wo and South China counterparts Anto Grabo and Leslie Santos, will demonstrate their skills at the Hong Kong Sports Institute on April 8 and 12 to primary school students as part of the Coca-Cola School Soccer Stars Parade.
