Germanische to conduct surveys for MARINA

GERMANISCHER Lloyd's Philippines Inc has been accredited by the Maritime Industry Authority (MARINA) to perform statutory surveys on its behalf and act as its adviser on ship safety.

The Manila office is the newest Germanischer Lloyd's (GL) branch and inspection office.

There are 420 in 118 countries.

GL has a strong presence in Southeast Asia, with regional offices in Singapore and Hong Kong and branches in many countries, including Japan, Korea, China, Malaysia, Indonesia, Vietnam and India.

It is one of the six largest classification societies in the world and is a founding member of the International Association of Classification Societies.

Governments of 105 countries authorise GL to carry out statutory surveys on their behalf and to act as their adviser on ship safety matters.

GL has about 800 qualified engineers, 580 field staff and 340 surveyors serving the society as contractors.

Present classified tonnage comprises some 4,500 sea-going ships with a value of 21.3 million gross tonnes, and an additional 3,000 inland waterway vessels totalling three million dwt.

GL continues to maintain a very strong position in containerships by supervising more than 50 per cent of new buildings on order worldwide.
