I WOULD like to congratulate your paper, and particularly your writer Miss Billy Wong Wai-yuk, for persistence in highlighting the shameful deportation of the child Hai Ho-tak and separation from his family in Hong Kong.

I am sure that if your paper had not kept this issue in the public eye, this child would have been ignored, and you would not have been able to report this story's happy ending (Sunday Morning Post, February 26 and March 5).

Until recently, this was the plight of thousands of other children living in China, who should have been allowed to stay with their parents in Hong Kong. It seems difficult to be critical of parents who neglect and physically or psychologically abuse their children when the administration has allowed this to happen to children who are separated from parents and family here.
