Onassis art for auction

PAINTINGS and furniture from the late Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis' Fifth Avenue apartment are being catalogued at Sotheby's auction house for sale later this year, insiders report.

Onassis' will stipulated that such a sale could be held as early as nine months after her death.

The apartment and its contents were inherited by Onassis' children, Caroline Schlossberg and John Kennedy Jnr.

Onassis' collection of John Marin watercolours might fetch US$100,000 (HK$772,000) each at auction, while her Chippendale-era furniture and other antiques are likely to sell for top prices as well.

'Jackie would have been pleased if all this had remained in the family but Caroline has her own stuff and John isn't into antiques,' a Sotheby's source said.

The apartment recently was sold to Kansas oilman David Koch.
