THE article '$8.4m offer to prevent strike' (South China Morning Post, March 30) gives the wrong impression that entry requirements of technical institutes' lecturers have been lowered.

The change to a lecturer's (graduate) post in the technical institutes is not, merely a 'drop' of post-qualification experience from six years to three but also from a degree to an honours degree. This was to align entry qualifications with those of lecturer (technical college), a new grade in the Vocational Training Council following the establishment of the technical colleges, because both have the same starting point.
