Could that Reid home be on the market?

A SMALL advertisement in the property pages extolling the virtues of a New Zealand property on sale for $2.4 million caught Back Bites' eye last week. It sounded idyllic: three double bedrooms, swimming pool and garden.

But the location really made us take notice: 'Famed Tauranga ... kiwifruit area about three hours south of Auckland' - which also happened to be the home of disgraced government lawyer Warwick Reid.

Reid spent five years in prison for receiving $12.4 million in bribes. When he was released last November, one of the conditions was that he had to sell his home in Tauranga by the end of last month to help pay back part of the money. It was valued at $2.7 million.

Unfortunately, no one was at the telephone number listed in the advertisement, so we are none the wiser about whether the Government has resorted to classified advertisements to wrest the missing Reid millions back into official coffers.
