Bicycle fare

I REFER to the letter from bicycle owner Alan Sargent (South China Morning Post, April 5) and the impending barring of bicycles from cross-harbour ferries.

This seems to be most unreasonable and an easy solution is obvious: charge the bicycle rider the same fare for his bicycle, as for himself.

This should satisfy both parties.

A more far-sighted government would have provided special roadways for cyclists, as progressive countries such as the Netherlands and Denmark have.

However, I suspect there is not enough money and prestige in the humble bicycle for big-time, big-spending, Hong Kong people with no foresight.
