THE Hong Kong agent of a Taiwan cargo ship which sunk after a collision on Tuesday was yesterday asked to clear the containers left floating in busy waters off Waglan Island.

A Marine Department spokesman said three tugs and a barge from Yong Long Steamship (Hong Kong) had begun to pick up empty containers.

The agent of the ship Hai You said 92 empty containers fell into the sea after it collided with another Taiwanese cargo vessel, Thuban, six nautical miles southeast of Waglan Island.

One body has been recovered, but the search for four missing seamen was called off yesterday.

Twenty uninjured Taiwanese survivors are likely to fly home tonight.

The damaged Thuban is in the Hong Kong United dockyard on Tsing Yi Island.
