Gauci asked to appear at club inquiry

TOP Australian jockey Darren Gauci has been requested to appear before a Jockey Club inquiry on Saturday. The details had not emerged last night but the inquiry to be held at Sha Tin before Saturday's race meeting could focus on requirements to report corrupt approaches.

The investigation, which is known to have originally centred on certain owners and not Gauci, has taken place over some months and recommendations have been forwarded to the Stewards of the Jockey Club.

The former Melbourne champion jockey - who has been interviewed by the Security Department - was last night discussing the matter with barrister Kevin Egan.

There is no suggestion whatsoever he has stopped horses or colluded with other riders. Jockey Club chief executive Major General Guy Watkins confirmed this.
