TIGHTER monitoring rules have been slapped on all new airport projects, after officials admitted yesterday that environmental concerns were being ignored.

The Advisory Council on the Environment has demanded that detailed reports on projects be submitted to the Environmental Protection Department every month.

'The reports which were submitted were very brief and did not provide enough information for us to assess the environmental mitigating factors,' council chairman Wang Gungwu said.

Green groups had complained to the New Airport Projects Co-ordination Office and it admitted that some approved schemes were ignoring environmental guidelines, he said.
