VICTORIA Lawn Bowls Club made a winning debut in the elite division on the opening day of the 1995 Men's Summer League lawn bowls season, writes Nazvi Careem.

The Victoria Park-based club, promoted from Second Division after only four years in the league, earned a 6-2 home victory over Filipino Club yesterday.

Defending champions Craigengower Cricket Club also made an encouraging start with a 6-2 win away to last year's runners-up, Kowloon Bowling Green Club.

Hong Kong Football Club, playing on their new artificial greens at Sports Road, took a maximum eight points in their 8-0 win over Recreio.

Another title-contender, Kowloon Cricket Club, came away from Police with a 6-2 victory.

In the other First Division match, China Light and Power defeated Indian Recreation Club 6-2.
