Looking forward to that winner

THIS is the time of year to start looking for horses to back in the early meetings of next season, especially the griffins which may well find competing against their fellow griffins at set weights beyond them at present but are going to be betting propositions down in Class Four and Class Five.

David Hill is famed for his patience with his youngsters and it could well pay to keep tabs on his The Incomparable during September and October of next term.

The son of Arc De Triomphe winner, Trempolino, didn't show much on his debut but his trackwork had been much better since that run and it was confirmed in yesterday's griffin event won in such good style by the Tony P. H. Chan-trained Intrepid Lad. The Incomparable showed good natural speed for much of the 1,400-metre event and that is the vital factor when looking for griffins to follow down in Class Four and Five.

If they show natural pace in their first year they can almost certainly be placed to advantage when handicapped into open company.

Watch out for The Incomparable over a mile or farther.

In the same race the Lawrie Fownes-trained Ace Of Hearts showed a good action throughout.

He was no match for the placegetters but will have benefited from the experience.
