KLM lays plans for Shanghai flights

KLM Royal Dutch Airlines plans to open a branch office in China late next year and to start offering a route to Shanghai from Amsterdam.
Negotiations between the management group of KLM and the Chinese Government will take place next month.
Speaking at the 75th anniversary of KLM, the general manager of KLM's China, Hong Kong and Macau office, Vincent Vogt, said that with the existing travel restrictions for mainland residents, the market in China was not as competitive as Hong Kong's but it would serve as long-term investment plans.
He said the new route covered 20 per cent of the market for mainland residents, with the rest from Hong Kong and other foreign countries.
KLM would increase its routes when it saw prominent results from the development, he said.
