FAST-RISING young swim star Alex Fong Lik-sun posted his first national junior long course record in the Mantas Invitational Meeting at the Victoria Park pool yesterday.

The St Joseph's College student clocked two minutes and 15.03 seconds in winning the 200 metres butterfly event to shave 0.62 of a second off the Hong Kong junior mark held by Brendan Leung.

Fifteen-year-old Fong bagged four gold medals in the opening day of the two-day meeting, also winning the 100 metres backstroke, 200 metres freestyle and 200 metres individual medley events.

He also got a bronze in the 100 metres breaststroke, won by Michael Scott, and just missed out on a medal in the 100 metres freestyle.

There were three meet records from the girls.

Nhemia Velasco of the Alabang Gators from the Philippines set a new 100 metres freestyle record of 1:16.64 on her way to triumph in all three events for girls aged eight-and-under.

Oraya Phonghanyudh from Thailand, competing in the nine and 10 years age group, rewrote the 100 metres butterfly record with a time of 1:18.45 and Ayako Nakamura won the 200 metres individual medley (13 and 14 years) in a record time of 2:30.58.
