Pylon complaints backed

LEGISLATORS have backed residents who complained that pylons being built in Sai Kung were too close for comfort.

After a half-day visit, they agreed to look at other sites suggested by residents.

Accompanied by government officials and China Light and Power staff, members of the joint panel on health and environment affairs visited several sites.

Residents made their feelings known by waving banners and chanting slogans during the visit by legislators and officials.

Legislator Dr Leong Che-hung said the on-site experience had given them a better understanding of how the cable towers affected the environment, and of possible problems faced by residents.

'If it is possible to move the pylons a bit away from the residents or to change its pathway, why not?' he said.
