Concern more about stability
THERE have been a number of letters in these columns criticising the design of the new Outlying Islands ferry piers at the Central Reclamation project.
My concern is more about stability.
It is my experience that when the incoming ferry from Mui Wo is docking at the eastern side of ferry pier No 7, the pier sometimes sways perceptibly from side to side. This swaying motion can be felt for two or three oscillations and appears to stop only when the ferry is securely berthed.
The swaying motion is most noticeable when the sea is moderately rough and the docking ferry hits the side of the pier more than once.
Would the relevant authorities please confirm if this swaying motion is intentional and acceptable and advise what sort of moving experiences might be expected during very rough weather when the docking ferries will no doubt be forced against the pier both hard and often? NAME AND ADDRESS SUPPLIED
