LOCALS gawked, tourists rejoiced and eagles dived for cover yesterday as Hong Kong's bumbling, charity-earning paragliders buzzed into Beijing alive after their 2,500-kilometre 'Flight for Sight' journey.

To the initial astonishment of assembled tourists, businessman David Chu Yu-lin and Police Report presenter Senior Inspector Angus Scott, floated out of the skies on to a car park next to the Great Wall.

The paragliders arrived more than an hour late and short on fuel, but delighted with their daring exploit.

After 18 months of planning, the duo lost precious hours when winds hampered their take-off attempts from a park in Tin Shui Wai near Yuen Long on June 11.

Once aloft, the pair averaged three hours flying a day, reaching a speed of 70km/h and a height of 3,000 metres in the trek through six provinces and 36 cities.

'Flying over the Great Wall was definitely one of the most difficult parts of the journey,' Chu said after touching down.
