Three lines form global alliance

FOLLOWING months of discussions, Germany's DSR-Senator Lines, South Korea's Hanjin Shipping and Cho Yang are forming a global shipping alliance.

The alliance will be launched in January, reaching full status two years later. In 1998, the three carriers will deploy more than 60 vessels, ranging in size from 3000 teus (20 ft equivalent units) to 5000 teus, on the trans-Pacific and Asia-Europe routes.

DSR-Senator Lines and Cho Yang form the Tricon consortium.

By incorporating Hanjin's services - with particular strength in the Pacific - the lines eventually will offer a network of competitive global services and meet customers' requirements and expectations.

Weekly sailings on the east-west routes will be linked with the major north-south trades.

Hanjin charters 180 slots each week in each direction on the trans-Atlantic sailings, part of Tricon's round-the-world service.

It also charters 140 slots each week in each direction on Tricon's Asia-Mediterranean-America service.
