TripAdvisor's latest survey comparing prices of room service and amenities at hotels has found that common items can vary considerably in price, depending on which country you are staying in. We have some examples in Asia.

TripAdvisor's TripIndex Room Service 2013 compares the cost of common incidental items and services that many travellers purchase when staying in a hotel. All costs are taken from top TripAdvisor-rated four-star local and international hotels in each destination.

Money can be saved with three cities in the 10 least expensive destinations: Mumbai in India, Jakarta in Indonesia and Taipei in Taiwan ranked third, eighth and 10th, respectively. Singapore and Tokyo offer the most expensive room service, twice the cost of room service in Mumbai.

The greatest differences were seen in the price of a club sandwich, bottled water and dry cleaning.

Club sandwich: The most expensive Asian destination for this common hotel food order is Tokyo, where the average cost was US$23.71- more than three times that of Mumbai, at US$7.21.

Bottled water: In Hong Kong and Kuala Lumpur, all the hotels contacted provided free bottled water. Beijing had the most expensive bottled water at US$5.37 per bottle.

Dry cleaning of one shirt: Singapore charged the most at US$11.09 - more than three times that of Mumbai, the lowest at US$3.20.

TripAdvisor compared popular hotel amenities in 46 of the world's key destinations and 10 Asian cities.
