DO druggies take a day off when it rains? Pampered police dogs certainly do. We've been pondering this one since inclement weather caused the cancellation of a police raid aimed at routing drug traffickers in Wan Chai. Fight Crime Committee members, the press and Department of Health officials alerted to the undercover operation were anxiously awaiting action.
Until Chief Inspector Michael Chiu Kai-ting canned it as the skies rained cats and dogs. 'The sensitivity of the dogs would be better on a good weather day so I am afraid the result of the raid would be affected,' he said.
And besides, he added, the main aim of the operation was to arouse the attention of young people in a bid to deter them from taking or trafficking in drugs.
So when it rains heavily, most of them will stay at home and our purpose will fail, he said. Yeah, right.
