TransAsia first to move to A321

ASIA'S first Airbus Industrie A321 jet has been delivered to Taiwan's TransAsia Airways.

The medium-capacity twin-jet, the largest of the Airbus single-aisle family, is in service with Air Inter, Alitalia, Lufthansa and Swissair.

TransAsia has put the aircraft into service and is using it on domestic routes.

So far, 10 airlines in the Asia-Pacific region have chosen single-aisle aircraft from Airbus, including the A320 and A321.

Dragonair, meanwhile, has taken delivery of its second A330 twin-engine widebody.

The airline has a fleet of seven A320s and two A330s, with another A330 to be acquired later this year.

The latest aircraft, which touched down at Kai Tak airport on Saturday, is the first the airline has purchased through lease finance. It will be used primarily on the Shanghai and Beijing routes.

The eight other aircraft are leased through International Lease Finance of the United States.

A third A330 is to be delivered later this year, making Dragonair the first airline in Asia to operate an all-Airbus fleet.
