THE Philippines is seeking strategic partners to redevelop seven army camps into commercial and industrial zones.

The partners would be able to hold a 55 per cent stake in the developments, with the rest remaining in the hands of the Bases Conversion Development Authority, authority chairman Victor Lim said.

One of the areas coming up for grabs is part of the Villamor air base in Metro Manila's Pasay city, which the Philippine Air Force is vacating.

The partners will be chosen through open bidding, similar to the system used in January's auction of the 214-hectare Fort Bonifacio military site in Manila.

The auction was won by a 19-member consortium led by Metro Pacific, part of First Pacific group.

The Bases Conversion Development Authority has set a deadline of August 30 for the submission of pre-qualification documents.
