Fibre optic cable

Mike Kerr, Alcatel general manager, displays a fibre optic cable. State of the art optic transmission technology made by Alcatel is being used in the 2,800 kilometre JASURAUS undersea cable linking Australia with Asia.

The A$120 million supply contract was awarded to Alcatel by the project's joint venture partners, Telstra and Optus. The JASURAUS cable will link Port Hedland in Western Australia to Indonesia, with onward connections to the Asia-Pacific Cable Network (APCN,) which will link Australia to Indonesia, Hong Kong, Japan, South Korea, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore, Taiwan and Thailand.
