Going wins an instant call-up

VAUGHN Going returns to Hong Kong on Thursday from his South African adventure and the New Zealander will be happy to find that his place in the national squad is still vacant.
Going has been drafted in by national coach George Simpkin into the 13-strong squad for the Malaysian Rugby Union-COBRA 10s tournament to be played in Kuala Lumpur on September 2-3.
Forwards Rick Shuttleworth and Stuart Krohn have pulled out of the tour party. Their absence has led to Simpkin calling up Going and Gary Cross.
The national squad have been in training for the tournament, but undoubtedly the fittest person on the squad will be powerful centre Going, who comes straight from a season of playing for leading Durban district team Empangeni.
Going will rejoin last season's League champions Valley for the 1995-96 season.
Hong Kong have been drawn with South Africa, Germany and Malaysia in the preliminary round of the 16-team COBRA tournament.
It will be a long day for Hong Kong on Saturday, September 2.
The schedule for the first day shows that the territory will come up against Germany at 1.30 pm, Malaysia at 4.50 pm and South Africa at 8.10 pm, the penultimate game of the day.
The top two teams from each group move into the Cup competition.
Meanwhile local fans will get a taste of international rugby early in the season courtesy of a South African Airways (SAA) team, who will stop over in the territory for a three-game tour.
The SAA squad will play the Hong Kong development squad on September 17, Valley on September 19 and a Cathay Pacific Select team (drawn from other clubs in the territory) on September 21.
The visitors are believed to be of the standard of a local First Division side.
