Scientists prove Vic right

A MONTH or two ago, when the Australian professional shark hunter Vic Hislop opined that Sai Kung's regular June shark attacks were the work of one or more great white sharks returning annually to feed at the same location, the idea was ridiculed by the Hong Kong Government and academic authorities as nonsense.

How could some tattooed commoner with an accent like that of Crocodile Dundee possibly know more than our great thinking ones? On August 15, at 8.35pm, ATV World broadcast a BBC/National Geographic documentary special entitled, The Great White Shark, made last year.

It revealed that US marine biologists - who appear to have a rather more hands-on approach to their research - have discovered and documented a habitual feeding pattern among identified individual great white sharks.

Video footage clearly showed the same fish returning annually, as regularly as clockwork, to the same area to seek their prey. Would our so-called local 'shark experts' please comment in the light of this new information? JACKIE WELLS Causeway Bay
