Using quality materials is integral to any commercial or industrial construction as one small flaw can potentially compromise structural integrity and disrupt operational continuity. Plastic pipe designer and manufacturer Sinopipe knows this well. The company is promoting the widespread adoption of plastic pipes for infrastructure development in Asia as they are more durable and cost-effective.
"We can provide products with better quality at a better cost," says Dr Pu Weidong, Sinopipe executive director and CEO.
Corrosion-resistant, easier to transport, simple to install - these are only some of the advantages that plastic pipes have over traditional concrete and metal pipes. Aiming to push the boundaries of plastic pipes further, Sinopipe invests in research and development, exploring the use of new plastic materials for different pipe applications.
From polyvinyl chloride drainage and sewerage pipes, Sinopipe has expanded its portfolio to fabricate pipes used for water supply, telecommunications, power supply, water-saving irrigation and gas supply.
Sinopipe has received technical patents for pipe innovations such as the scratch-resistant steel mesh reinforced polyethylene pipe and high-density polyethylene pipe flange connections.
The company is instrumental in setting industry standards for plastic pipes. It has always been at the forefront of the plastic pipe industry, being among the first to introduce its use in infrastructure projects on the mainland.
Through a member of its management, Sinopipe is affiliated with China Plastics Industry Association. Known on the mainland as Fujian Atontech, Sinopipe is among the companies selected to participate in the 2009 National Rural Drinking Water Project. The project aims to provide safe drinking water in rural areas and to ensure that construction materials and equipment for water transport improve in quality.
With 12 production facilities across the mainland, Sinopipe has the capacity to supply to its home market and to other export markets. Sinopipe eyes partnerships with engineering and construction companies to tackle the burgeoning infrastructure development in the region.
Sinopipe's listing on the Singapore Exchange will further enable the company to tap the construction boom in the region. As a locally incorporated company, Sinopipe also leverages Singapore's strategic location as a transshipment hub.
"I restructured our business model and centralised our management to provide quicker response and better service. Together with partners in the region, we are ready for new opportunities in Asia, particularly for small town developments on the mainland," Pu says.
