TUEN MUN residents have been warned not to risk their lives by taking illegal water taxis to work.
The Marine Department yesterday said handbills advertising the service by pleasure-craft owners had been discovered near Tuen Mun Ferry Pier.
In an attempt to capitalise on the road transport congestion, a company is offering a 'water cab' service at $80 per person per trip from Tuen Mun to Central.
The advert said the company was using pleasure vessels, and guaranteed passengers that they would arrive in Central before 9 am.
Tuen Mun District Board member Chan Wan-sang said he understood services to Tsim Sha Tsui east were also available at the same price.
Hong Kong Ferry charges $12 and $22 respectively for ordinary ferry and catamaran services.
