One killed in attack on US consulate in Afghanistan

Gunmen staged an attack on the US consulate in Herat, western Afghanistan early on Friday leaving at least one person dead and 18 wounded, officials said.

An AFP reporter at the scene said the attack appeared to be petering out. Four policemen were among the wounded, Herat hospital spokesman Mohammad Rafiq Sherzai said.

No further information on the fatality was immediately available.
