Victory margin flatters Golden
GOLDEN joined Instant-Dict at the top of the Hong Kong First Division following a 4-1 defeat of newly-promoted Mansion at Mongkok Stadium last night.
The score was not a true reflection of the game as Golden needed to work hard for their second successive victory.
Mansion striker Chu Chung-kai was a constant danger up front and the newcomers won the lion's share of corners but lacked the extra touch to really trouble Golden who share top spot with Instant-Dict, who have a superior goal difference.
Mansion showed their inexperience in defence when Golden took a 2-0 first-half lead through goals by midfielders Lo Kai-wah and Chiu Chung-man.
Lo struck a venomous volley in the eighth minute and Chiu made it 2-0, scoring directly from his corner kick in the 22nd minute.
Mansion's Ng Kam-hung nodded in Chu's corner in the 53rd minute but Golden struck again in the 57th and 64th.
Bosnian striker Anto Grabo slipped the ball past Mansion goalkeeper John Cheesewright after playing a neat one-two with Lee Bullen.
Then Lee Fuk-wing struck from the penalty spot after Grabo was fouled by Mike Gonzague.
Bullen could have made it 5-1 in the 78th minute but his shot struck the cross-bar.
Meanwhile, Mansion are still negotiating a month-by-month contract with former Eastern striker Paul Nixon.
