Environmental practices play essential role

THIS is the fourth consecutive year that the Private Sector Committee on the Environment, through the Centre of Environmental Technology, has organised the competition for the Environmental Performance Category of the Hong Kong Awards for Industry.

I congratulate the companies that have come forward to compete. They are leaders in recognising that environmental performance is an essential attribute of a well-run, forward-thinking and profitable business entity.

Judging environmental performance involves assessing the way in which environmental concerns have become embedded in all aspects of a company's operations, from its environmental management system to staff training and community involvement.

I hope to see more companies understanding the vital importance of systematically incorporating good environmental practices into the management of their business.

On behalf of the Private Sector Committee on the Environment, I would like to extend my thanks to the Honourable Andrew K. N. Li for chairing the judging panel and to all panel members.

Finally, I would like to thank the Centre of Environmental Technology for its excellent work in organising the competition.
